The Summit gave the big picture of what’s going on in economic development in Florida!
On Friday, May 3rd, 2013 business leaders, funding professionals, economic development experts and entrepreneurs from around the state joined at the Spark Growth Economic Development Summit. On the beautiful new Riverwalk complex in Bradenton, FL Dell’s Chief Innovation Officer Jim Stikeleather set the day’s theme with his keynote: “Disruptive Technologies and Disruptive Business Models: In a perfect economy where is growth and return?” Expert panelists discussed development trends and opportunities across sectors.
- How does your business fit in this new world?
- What changes have you made?
- What changes are you considering?
- Would different answers give you different results?
Riverwalk 2013 was four days and four very different events that set the stage to help you navigate this changing business landscape.

Thursday May 2 was a “Coding for non-Profit” event – which brought together software architects, designers, coders and project managers for an incredibly fun day solving some technical issues for Realize Bradenton – the local arts and culture council, and the group that runs the Riverwalk complex.
Friday May 3 was the Economic Development Summit that, through a series of panel discussions and breakouts and a special keynote, examined current trends in disruptive technology and disruptive business models.
Saturday May 4 was the BarCamp Sarasota-Bradenton unconference event. BarCamps are where open space rules, and the conference agenda grows on the fly during the day. Everyone participates by sharing their passion – whether it be through talks, panel discussions, round tables, marketing feedback, or just plain great conversations.
Sunday May 5 was a green technology expo and music festival day. This was a fun-filled day of learning what’s new from the US Green Builders’ Council.
Traditional events may give you lots of info – but Riverwalk 2013 was transformational to attendees, their ideas, and the beautiful Bradenton area.
